La Coubre lighthouse
It was built at the beginning of the 20 th century on the municipality of La Tremblade. It’s situated at the northern end of the Gironde Estuary. This lighthouse is 64 m high. You can visit it and enjoy a very beautiful panorama on the estuary, the forest of La Coubre and the isle of Oléron.
At the foot of the lighthouse there is an eco-museum which tells us about its history and explains its functioning.

La Palmyre zoo

The Cordouan Lighthouse
This lighthouse is a unique site, built at the mouth of the estuary 7 km far from the coast. It’s the oldest one in France.
Its construction began in the 16 th century . It’s 68 m high and has got six floors in Renaisance style. You can get it by boat , don’t hesitate to visit it... there is something magical there.

The seagulls train
Created in 1875 the railway line which was going from Saujon to La Tremblade is now a touristic itinerary. This train is pulled by the oldest steam locomotive in France. On board you will set off on a journey over time on the banks of the Seudre estuary.

Fort Boyard
Halfway between the isles of Aix and Oléron Fort Boyard is a fortified place built to defend the royal arsenal of Rochefort and protect the harbour. However the new military techniques have made this monument obsolete even before the end of the construction.
This stone vessel standing in the ocean is nevertheless a magnificent work.
